Medieval objects recovered from the drainage canals of the city of Salisbury in the 1850's led to the foundation of Salisbury Museum in 1860. The acquisition of many exceptional finds excavated from nationally significant sites, including Clarendon Palace, Old Sarum, Gomeldon and Salisbury itself, this medieval collection is one of the most outstanding in any provincial museum.
